Did you know that the third Monday in January is dubbed “Blue Monday” and is considered one of the most difficult days of the year? This is because we’re post-Christmas, full-on into winter, and by this time most people have abandoned their New Years resolution. And of course, this year, we have the added whammy of being in a provincial-wide lockdown.

This is a great time to refocus yourself and reconnect to the goals you set at the beginning of the year. Here are a few tips to reconnect to your goals and make progress towards accomplishing them.

1. Reconnect to your “Why”

Grab your journal and list out your New Years Resolutions/ goals for 2021. Beside each goal, write down how accomplishing this goal would make you feel. Perhaps if your goal is to “lose 10 pounds”, the feelings you might associate would be “feel naturally energetic, feel proud of myself, feel more like myself”.

Connecting to how we want to feel can add an extra dimension to our motivation and becomes our guiding light when accomplishing our goals seems difficult. Imagining yourself accomplishing your goals also helps to build confidence and keep you moving in the right direction.

2. Create Accountability

Once you’ve connected to your “why”, find other people who are also working to accomplish the same or similar goals. By having a team of people around you, you can all cheer each other on and help each other when you hit a rut, all while holding each other accountable.

Some great ways to connect with others can be through Facebook Groups or by joining a program, like the ones we offer through FMU. Our Beyond Pain Program and Metabolic Reset Program support you by keeping you on track with our team of Doctors, Health Coaches and Nutritionists. We are here to make sure you are meeting your goals and feeling your best! If this sounds like a good fit for you, reach out to hello@fmuptown.com or 519-745-1600 to get started on your journey. You can also check out our events page for upcoming webinars for more information on each program.

3. Don’t Beat Yourself Up

Remember that perfection is impossible and that this is all a journey towards your bigger goals. If you have a misstep, evaluate what happened, and get right back on track. When making lifestyle changes it is natural for there to be some resistance. The key is to keep on repeating the patterns you want to incorporate into your life and acknowledge missteps without letting them take ahold of you.
